What is it about the moon that speaks to us?

Perhaps it is that our ancestors from long long ago admired and loved that rocky orb,

and it is deep in our cells to respond somehow to its beauty.

    Last month's super moon,

    the night before the eclipse.

    The eclipse!

Earth's shadow moves across her moon.

Sun, Earth and Moon in perfect alignment.

On vacation and settled into a little cottage on a clear night, on Cape Cod, without my tripod!

(These shots are a testament to the genius of the engineers who developed digital cameras.

I was able to change the "ISO" (film speed) to a whopping 1600. The only wobbly shots are the ones in total shadow.)

The clouds above us join and separate,

The breeze in the courtyard leaves and returns.

Life is like that, so why not relax?

Who can stop us from celebrating?

    From a moving car,

the background is almost stationary – almost.

    The foreground is whizzing by.

You can learn things about yourself

when you step outside of your ordinary life.

Things that are obvious once you get hit over the head with them,

    like –

we aren't going to live forever,

    me and my friends,

we aren't going to live forever.

    Of course you know that,

but when you lose a friend you were sure you would see again and again,

    it hits you.

No matter how perfect or imperfect that house on the hill is,

it will one day be gone.

    If I weren't a photographer,

    would I be a writer?

It turns out that I can't post photos from my phone

    to the blog,

    so,

not being in possession of a tablet,

my blog will be dark for a while.

    (Unless I suddenly become a writer…

    we will see!)

    In the meantime,

    here's one for the road.

    Life goes on-

    surfers surf,

and birds scamper for their food,

oblivious to the special moment that is paramount to the people attending,

especially, one could hope, to the hapless couple!

When our lives become more outward,

    for whatever reason,

    we get really busy

    or

    find a new friend

    or

    become a grandparent

    or

    a parent,

then there is less time to ponder our inner world.

This is  not bad or good,

    it just is!

So long as we enjoy the cacophony that is living.
