Shadow blog

If someone asked you what the dominant emotion of your childhood was,

what would your answer be?

This happened to me and it wasn't a trusted friend or a therapist who posed the question,

but someone I cleaned for who could engage me in interesting conversations.

My uninhibited response was, "shame."

As I said the word I could feel what a deep tragedy it was,

a terrible legacy and a heavy burden for a child to carry.

But it was the truth,

my truth.

Wow, good question! At first I thought fear, anger, shame, ect… But then courage popped into my head. It was courageous, brave of me to be able to find a way to adapt to the disfunction I was in as a child. Kinda like adapting to war…As the years passed and I was safely able to look back at that time I was able to feel all those feelings and find my true courageous path that I walk now.

Barb, do you think that you realized that there was dysfunction when you were a kid? I don’t think that I did, yet I wanted out! I was so angry by the time I got to high school, yet I didn’t know what I was angry about. Later, when I thought about that movie, and mostly the title, “Rebel Without A Cause,” I realized that the cause was the stealing of our sweet spirits when we were so young and eager to live and love.
What can you say, it ends well! Thank goodness!
