Lily or Orchid?

On a walk through old St. Augustine,

this lovely surprise was swaying on the end of a long arching stem,

powered by large round green sails –

up and down and 'round and 'round,

in the gentle breeze.

    but, I cannot be sure because of the movement that Bean describes, so who knows?

    I think it’s an Orchid Tree, not really an Orchid but resembles one. If the petals overlap it’s Bauhinia variegata. If not, Bauhinia blakeana or at least that’s what my tree book says.
